A Hong Kong native with mixed heritage, James retired from the Royal Hong Kong Police after 32 years of service reaching the rank of Senior Superintendent. His vast experience in the police force centered on front line leadership, management, and negotiation. He was also the Deputy Commandant of the Police Cadet School. Since he left the police force, he has been involved with various companies on training for safety and customer service, complaint handling employee discipline and implementing corporate governance initiatives.
